Pesquisa/Research

My current research is in the area of applied dynamical systems, diferential geometry, networks and data analysis and data fitting
In particular with my students and my collaborators we are studying problems such as :

Epidemic dynamics : Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika

             Aedes Albopictus            Aedes Aegypti
             Aedes Albopictus    Aedes Albopictus

Epidemic spreading in a city (using dynamical systems on networks):
-- Formulation of the SIR-Network model, parameter fitting, basins of attraction and control with application to Dengue fever in Rio de Janeiro, in collaboration with Lucas Stolerman (as Master student at UFRJ, in this moment doing his PhD at IMPA, Brasil), Daniel Coombs (Dep. Mathematics, University of British Columbia, Canada), Catherine Bonnet( CentraleSupelec, Gif-sur-Yvett, France)

-- Spatio-temporal analysis of population, climate and epidemic data, in collaboration with Bernard Cazelles (Eco-Evolution Mathématique, ENS, Pari, France), Marina Paez (Statistics, UFR, Brasil), Ali Mohammad-Djafari ( CentraleSupelec, Gif-sur-Yvette, France), Nathan Kutz & Pedro Maia (Dept. Applied Mathematics, University of Washington, Seattle, USA)

Vortex and Mass dynamics on manifolds

Dynamics of point vortices on manifolds :
-- Existence and stability of Relative Equilibria, in collaboration with Carles Simó (Universitat de Barcelona, Catalunia, Spain)
-- Dynamics of vortices on surfaces of revolution conformal to the sphere, in collaboration with Jair Koiller (INMETRO/UFRJ); David Dritchel (University of St. Andrews, UK)

Unifying formulation of the dynamics of vortices and masses on surfaces of revolution :
-- Formulation of the problem, re-analysis of Newton´s laws, initial study of the Kepler problem on the plane and on the sphere, in collaboration with Rodrigo Schaefer (as Master student at UFRJ, in this moment doing his PhD at UPC, Barcelona) and David Dritschel (University of St. Andrews, UK)
-- The dynamics of two bodies on a cylinder, in colaboration with Gladston Duarte (Master student at UFRJ) and Teresa Stuchi (IF, UFRJ)
