Petrópolis is a tourist and industrial city in middle of the mountains of Rio de Janeiro State. It is known as Imperial City since it was used by the Brazilian Emperor D.Pedro II as summer house, a way to escape from the heat in Rio. The city continued to be a second Brazilian capital during the republic for summer time until recent years. Petropólis is 809 m above sea level placed in a beautiful rocky scenery and with fresh air.
As Petropólis is in the Star Chain, surrounding the city there are places for canoeing,rafting, mountaineering, etc. One of the most famous Brazilian Carnival Bowl used to be at the beautiful Quitandinha only 5 minutes walking from LNCC. The air plane inventor (Santos Dumond) made his house in Petrópolis and is a peculiar one. The commerce at down town is very active especially at weekends; it is good for cloth, wool and leather. The Emperor Palace and the Cathedral are other options for visiting.
Arriving to LNCC
LNCC is at the city entrance (coming from Rio) and surrounded by many hotels, about 35 minutes drive from the Galeão Internactonal Airport (GIG) and about 50 minutes drive from Rio de Janeiro downtown.

By bus you should go to the bus station at Petrópolis city center, you also can get a bus to Rio at the nearest bus stop from LNCC.
